At the time of recruitment the future recruit had to
present a few certificates in order to be accepted as
a recruit. One of these certificates was a certificate
from his former employer. This was a certificate
stating the person's medical status. The regimental
medical officer issued the certificate.
A certificate from the farmer where Johan held an
employment prior to his recruitment.
This certificate reads (free translation):
The farmhand Johan Gert has been employed by me
since 1827 and are still in my employment until October
24, 1839; he has during his employment been diligent
and industrious and knows how to do the work that
occupies a country man; he is loyal,
sober and reliable to run his own as well as other's
errands and I can certainly recommend him.
Since he now plans to enroll for active military service I
hereby approve that can have days off from his
employment in order to participate in the in the regular
meetings a recruit has to undertake during his first year.
With condition to pay me 8 xx Banco for each day he is
doing service during this year.
In any other case, he is employed by undersigned during
this year.
