Terrängbil 30 and 40 (Off-road Trucks 30 and 40)

The off-road trucks Tgb 30 and Tgb 40 (Swedish: Terrängbil 30/40 (Tgb 30/40)) or Scania SBA 111/111S, were one of the most common types of trucks used by the Swedish Armed Forces. The two versions (30 and 40) have been in service with the Armed Forces since autumn 1975. These all-wheel drive vehicles were built to be driven in very rough terrain with a ground clearance of 40 cm under the axles. The gearbox consists of a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Tgb 30 has a winch with a 60 m winch line and 9 tons of pulling force. Scania's designation for the truck is SBA 111, Special Bulldog All-wheel drive, 11-liter diesel engine, generation 1. The Tgb 40 has a winch with a 50 m winch line and 11 tons of pulling force. Scania's designation for the truck is SBAT 111S, Special Bulldog All-wheel drive Tandem, 11 liters, generation 1, supercharged diesel engine. The Tgb 30 and Tgb 40 are 90% identical. The main differences for the Tgb 40 are one more wheel axle, a longer wheelbase and flatbed, greater load capacity, and an overboost unit on the engine that provides higher power. The Swedish Armed Forces ordered five different variants of the Scania SBA 111 and Scania SBA 111S. Variants: 1. Off-road truck Tgb 30 (Terrängbil 30) It is a 2-axle vehicle equipped with a 6-cylinder D11 engine producing 220 hp and has a permissible load of 4.5 tons on and off-road. Scania's designation is SBA 111. 2. Off-road truck Tgb 40 (Terrängbil 40) is a larger variant with three axles for towing artillery pieces, among other things. It has 300 hp, the same engine as the Tgb 30 but equipped with a turbocharger. Scania's designation is SBAT 111S. 3. Off-road truck Tgb 45 (Terrängbil 45) with a load capacity of 8.5 tons—both on and off-road—it is an export version of the Tgb 40 and has a slightly higher total weight. The Swedish Armed Forces ordered 90 units of this variant. 660 Tgb 45 trucks have been delivered to India. 4. Off-road rescue vehicle Rtgb 4112 (Räddningsterrängbil 4112) (Rtgb 4112) is a rescue vehicle. The Swedish Air Force employed the vehicle for emergency firefighting, rescue, and salvage and evacuation of downed aircraft. The vehicle was based on the SBAT 111S model. A total of 50 rescue vehicles were manufactured, which were equipped with a body containing foam extinguishing equipment. The image shows the off-road rescue vehicle Rtgb 4112 (Räddningsterrängbil.) Terrängbil 14 and 15 (Off-road Vehicles 14 and 15)

Off-road Vehicle 14 (Tgb 14), Off-road Vehicle 15 (Tgb 15), and Aircraft Maintenance Vehicle (FUHBIL) (Swedish: Terrängbil 14 (Tgb 14), Terrängbil 15 (Tgb 15), and Flygunderhållsbil (FUHBIL)) are a series of off-road vehicle versions from Mercedes-Benz used by the Swedish Armed Forces. The models are based on the military version Geländewagen 461 (or Mercedes-Benz G-Class). As early as the beginning of the 1990s, the Swedish Navy's ground forces began using Mercedes Geländewagen vehicles. Mercedes- Benz was also commissioned to supply service vehicles to the Swedish overseas military. However, the initial vehicles deployed were civilian cars that were not designed for Swedish circumstances. The vehicle was named Personterrängbil 5 (Ptgb 5) and was based on the MB 290/T (1994), MB 290GD (2000), and MB 270 CDI (2005) models. The Tgb 14, Tgb 15, and Aircraft Maintenance Vehicle (FUHBIL) are a series of off-road vehicle versions from Mercedes-Benz used by the Swedish Armed Forces. The models are based on the military version Geländewagen 461 (or Mercedes-Benz G-Class). In early 2011, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) entered into a framework agreement with Daimler AG. The agreement included an initial order for 105 Mercedes Geländewagen 300 CDI vehicles with associated maintenance systems. The order marked the start of the process of replacing the Tgb 11/13 and 20 off-road vehicles. In 2013, an order was placed for 535 light patrol vehicles of various types. The vehicle system was thus named Off-road vehicle 14, Tgb 14, (Terrängbil 14) and off-road vehicle 15, Tgb 15, (Terrängbil 15). In 2017, an additional 50 off-road vehicles were delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces. Off-road vehicle Tgb 14 is the designation for the four-wheel drive (4x4) model, while its sister model, off-road vehicle Tgb 15, differs in that it has six-wheel drive (6x6, three-axle). In early 2020, the FMV announced that it had signed an agreement with Mercedes-Benz AG for an additional 90 Off-road vehicle Tgb 15 vehicles. These were delivered between 2020 and 2022 and are used as aircraft turnaround vehicles (Swedish: Klargöringsfordon) in the Swedish Air Force. They are distributed among the fighter wings and helicopter squadrons and have the designations FUHBIL FPL for aircraft and FUBIL HKP for helicopters. “Klargöring” “ (turnaround) of an Swedish aircraft involves refueling, rearming, and minor maintenance. Standard turnaround of the JAS 39 Gripen takes less than 15 minutes to complete. The vehicle thus replaces the Air Force's previous turnaround vehicle, the Klargöringsbil 9711/9712 (Jeep J20), also known as “Dallas.” The Tgb 14 is available in both armored and unarmored variants, has a six-cylinder 184 hp engine, and is powered by all four wheels. It runs on diesel and can drive through approximately 60 cm of water and weighs approximately 2.1 tons unarmored without extra equipment. The armored variant weighs about 1.5 tons extra. The Tgb 15 has a cabin with room for four soldiers plus a 2.17 m long flatbed. It has a six-cylinder engine with 184 hp and weighs approximately 4.4 tons. Variants: Tgb 141A/T (M5138-141011), an unarmored four-wheel drive (4x4) vehicle. Tgb 1411 SPS/T (M5138-141111), a landmine-protected, armored four-wheel drive (4x4) vehicle. Tgb 152T (M5138-152011), a six-wheel drive (6x6) vehicle with no armor plating. Tgb 1511. Prototype remote reconnaissance off-road vehicle (6x6), only one ordered. Tgb 1522T (M5138-152211), a landmine-protected, armored six-wheel drive (6x6) vehicle. The 152 6x6 off-road vehicle has a short cab and a flatbed body at the rear. The model has a sunroof and weapon integration on the roof. FUHBIL FPL (M5190-972111), a landmine- and armor-protected six-wheel drive (6x6) vehicle used by the Air Force. Terrängbil 24 “SISU GTP” (Off-road Vehicle

TGB24)

The off-road vehicle TGB24 (Swedish: Terrängbil 24) is a ballistically protected 4-wheel drive vehicle with a total weight of 16.5 tons. They have a common base chassis where modules can be replaced to create new variants. Tgb 24 is of the GTP type, from Finnish supplier Sisu Oy. Sweden and Finland have procured and acquired the vehicles for their respective armed forces under a joint framework agreement. The off-road vehicles consist of a troop transport variant—Armored Personnel Carrier, APC—with room for a total of ten troops, and a variant with a double cab, flatbed, and canopy with room for a total of five troops. In total, Sweden and Finland have ordered over 260 vehicles, including single cab, air defense, command, medical, and indicator variants, which will also be delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces. The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) received the first delivery of the vehicle in August 2024, and these vehicles were delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces in the fall of 2024. This is an increase in the number of vehicles to the previously placed order for TGB24s, and these will be delivered within the same time frame as the original order. In total, Sweden and Finland have ordered over 600 vehicles.
