Amphibious Corps Rank Insignias, Sweden

Insignias:

Introduction

The Swedish Navy (Swe: Marinen) is a maritime service branch of the armed forces consisting of the two services: the Naval Fleet and the Amphibious Corps. Branches of the services within the Swedish Navy: The Naval Fleet — “Flottan” (the surface warfare flotillas, the mine warfare flotilla, and the submarine flotilla.) The Amphibious Corps Amfibiekåren” (the former Coast Artillery Corps 1902-2000.) Under the Navy, the Naval Fleet and the Amphibious Corps are two independent branches. So, the Navy is composed of surface and submarine naval units—the naval fleet (Flottan), formally sometimes referred to as the Royal Navy (Kungliga Flottan) — as well as marine units, the Amphibious Corps (Amfibiekåren). On July 1, 2000, the former Swedish Coast Artillery was disbanded and reorganized as the Swedish Amphibious Corps. The Amphibious Corps is the infantry marines arm of the Swedish Navy, with an emphasis on coastal defense, and is composed of coastal rangers, as well as marine infantry units. The rank insignias used by the Amphibious Corps today are very similar to the ones of the naval fleet. The former Coast Artillery used, after 1942, rank insignias that were similar to the Army's rank insignias. However, the Amphibious Corps uses the same names for the various military ranks as the Army (Major, Colonel, etc.). The rank insignia below are the ones used by the Amphibious Corps. The rank insignias of the Amphibious Corps, as well as the Navy, are worn on sleeves. That is true for the jacket/coat. However, the insignias worn on shirts are worn on the shoulders. Generals in the Amphibious Corps wear the insignias on both sleeves and shoulders. The shoulder insignias look different from those on the sleeves. The rank insignias for the officers were changed on February 1, 2003. This page shows the rank insignias prior to 2003. Today's rank insignia. Lower ranks
