Introduction
This page shows how the officers' rank
insignia looked between 2009 and 2019.
The rank insignia are worn both on the
sleeves as well as on the shoulders and
have an identical appearance. However,
depending on the uniform, they are
either worn on the sleeves or the shoulders.
The following rank insignia has been used by the
Swedish Air Force between 2009 and 2019.
Private soldiers
Corresponding ranks in English:

Menig = Airman Basic
•
Menig 1 kl/ år 1 (first year) = Airman
•
Menig 1 kl/ år 2 (second year) = Airman
•
Menig 1 kl/ år 3 (third year) = Airman First
Class
•
Menig 1 kl/ år 4 (fourth year) = Senior Airman

Överste av första graden, older rank, today
Brigadier General
There has been no new appointments of "Överste av
första graden" after July 1, 2000. Instead, to make the
rank more international, the new rank Brigadgeneral
is substituting "Överste av första graden".
