Årets Eldsjäl 2017 roughly means Driving Spirit of The Year 2017 or possibly Enthusiast of the Year 2017 and is an genealogical award appointed by The Federation of Swedish Genealogical Societies (Sveriges Släktforskarförbund, SSF) every year. In 2017 I was recognized as "Eldsjäl" of the Year! Grounds for the Appointment as “Eldsjäl” of the Year 2017: “Hans Högman, Sollentuna, has been appointed “Årets eldsjäl 2017”, nominated by Nyköping-Oxelösunds Släktforskarförening (Nyköping-Oxelösund Genealogical Society). Hans Högman’s website www.hhogman.se/militaria.htm is very informative and appealing and is an evidence of his great engagement in genealogy and his interest in the military organization and its people. The website is a goldmine for everyone researching soldiers, sailors and others employed by the armed forces and contains very valuable information about about Swedish regiments, the Allotment System, Swedish wars, military uniforms, the conscription system and much more. He maintains and adds new information to the website regularly. Hans Högman has a great interest in military and is generously sharing his knowledge in the joy of other genealogists. He is a worthy recipient of the award "Eldsjäl" of the Year.” I was very surprised when I got the announcement letter and I am naturally very proud and pleased to have received the award. I wish to thank the Federation of Swedish Genealogical Societies who awarded me the 2017 price and the Nyköping-Oxelösund Genealogical Society who nominated me. The July issue of the Federation’s magazine “Släkthistoriskt Forum” has an interview with me regarding the appointment. There was a Genealogy Congress in August in Halmstad on the Swedish west coast and the plan was to hand over the award to me there. However, I wasn’t able to participate in Halmstad in August.
